Topographic controls on subpixel change detection in western Himalayas

چکیده
Over Himalayas, the detection of seasonal snow cover variations via remote sensing is challenging due to presence rugged terrain and shadow effects. Moreover, traditional per-pixel-based change methods less competent identify inner-pixel subtle with coarse resolution satellite imagery. In present work, we have proposed subpixel-based (SCD) algorithm examine impact topographic correction (TC) on SCD algorithm. For experimental purposes, has been implemented over a part Himalayas (Himachal Pradesh, India) using two sensor datasets i.e. AWiFS Landsat-8 OLI/TIRS. Experimental outcomes confirmed effectiveness topographically corrected (86.17% 85.38% Landsat-8) as compared uncorrected (81.82% 84.19% Landsat-8). The framework proven be significant in terms both information extraction from shadowed areas variations. This study many applications especially field climatology, glaciology, hydrology.

Land Cover Subpixel Change Detection using Hyperspectral Images Based on Spectral Unmixing and Post-processing
The earth is continually being influenced by some actions such as flood, tornado and human artificial activities. This process causes the changes in land cover type. Thus, for optimal management of the use of resources, it is necessary to be aware of these changes. Today’s remote sensing plays key role in geology and environmental monitoring by its high resolution, wide covering and low cost...
متن کاملGeothermal Energy and Earthquakes in Western Himalayas
It is well corroborated that the earth is relentlessly bubbling inside since its birth and traversing continuously through a geological change. The source of this dynamism is the heat stored inside i.e. the geothermal energy, which is believed to be the product of mainly the decay of natural radio-isotopes in the crust and mantle, and in the core of earth. This heat exerts pressure towards the ...

Many topographic characteristics of the landscape (e.g. relief, slope, aspect, gradient, slope curvature, slope length and contour curvature) play important roles in the distribution of vegetation and biodiversity (e.g. Merriam, 1890, 1894; Whittaker & Niering, 1965, 1968; Vuilleumier, 1970; Brown, 1971, 1978; Hastings et al., 1972; Simpson, 1975; Hanawalt & Whittaker, 1976; Whittaker, 1977; Be...
متن کاملTopographic and ecologic controls on root reinforcement
[1] Shallow landslides are a significant hazard in steep, soil-mantled landscapes. During intense rainfall events, the distribution of shallow landslides is controlled by variations in landscape gradient, the frictional and cohesive properties of soil and roots, and the subsurface hydrologic response. While gradients can be estimated from digital elevation models, information on soil and root p...
متن کاملChange Detection for Topographic Mapping Using Three- Dimensional Data Structures
Identifying significant changes to our urban areas is a prerequisite for accurate topographic mapping. This paper presents an approach based on octree data structures to identify change between two sets of point cloud data. The aim of the study was to establish if a method based on the comparison of point clouds could be used to detect simply where topographic change had occurred. As many of th...
